Co-Author of Tom Sizemore Memoir Says 'He's No Saint' But 'Incredibly Misunderstood'

Disney"The Help" On Wednesday morning, the Screen Actors Guild will announce its nominations for the 18th annual SAG Awards. This is exciting news because, over the years, SAG Award nominations -- which are determined by a nominating committee composed of a randomly selected 3% of the union's overall membership (2100 for film categories and 2100 for television categories) -- have become the single best predictor of which performances will go on to receive acting nods from the Academy.our editor recommendsDick Van Dyke Reuniting With TV Wife Mary Tyler Moore at SAG AwardsSAG Awards: Zooey Deschanel, Emmy Rossum Share Acting Secrets SAG Awards: 7 Films That Could Take Ensemble Honors Last year, the two organizations overlapped on 17 out of 20 acting nominees (SAG picked Get Low's Robert Duvall over Biutiful's Javier Bardem, Conviction's Hilary Swank over Blue Valentine's Michelle Williamsand Black Swan's Mila Kunis over Animal Kingdom's Jacki Weaver), and the year before that they overlapped on an even more impressive 19 out of 20 (SAG picked Inglourious Basterds' Diane Kruger over Crazy Heart's Maggie Gyllenhaal). This makes sense, since they are essentially a microcosm of the Academy's acting branch -- another group of actors, numbering roughly 1,200 -- that selects the acting Oscar nominees. PHOTOS: The Making of 'The Descendants' The one area in which SAG's selections are only of questionable value, in terms of predicting Oscar nominations, is its best ensemble category. The category ostensibly exists to celebrate the most "outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture" -- in other words, films that feature large casts that work well together -- and many nom-com members approach it with that intent. But because nom-com voters don't have a specific category in which they can celebrate their choices for best picture, many choose to employ the ensemble category as their place to do that. Consequently, it's never totally clear what to make of SAG's choices in that category. In 2005 they nominated Crash (which actually won the SAG ensemble award, it's only major victory en route to a stunning upset win at the Oscars), which seemed to indicate that they might be a reliable predictor of the best picture Oscar; just two years later, though, four of SAG's five ensemble nominees -- American Gangster, Hairspray, Into the Wild, and 3:10 to Yuma -- weren't nominated for the best picture Oscar (or, in the case of Hairspray, any Oscars) at all. PHOTOS: The Making of 'The Artist' And so, without further ado, here are my best guesses of what SAG will choose to nominate Wednesday morning, based on my observations of and conversations with nom-com members at various screenings and Q&As over the past few months, as well as information that I have gathered from trusted sources. Madagascar 3 gets a trailer

The first trailer for Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted has landed online.Despite it being a threequel that no one was too desperate for, there's actually a fair few chuckles in this promo. The zoo escapees ended up in Africa at the end of a largely forgettable Part II, but, as the subtitle indicates, the gang hit Europe this time round. There's a couple of strong sight gags, and the penguins are as reliable as ever when it comes to scoring laughs.Having the characters chased across Europe looks like it'll give the franchise a boost of freshness when they could have just microwaved earlier ideas.Intriguingly, the script for this one comes courtesy of Noah Baumbach (writer/director of The Squid And The Whale and Greenberg).Check out the trailer below:Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted opens on 19 October 2012.

Nickelodeon Ratings Slide: Analyst Cuts Quarterly Ad Revenue Forecast for Viacom in Half

NY - The box office is down 6.0 percent so far in the fourth quarter, and "it will be difficult for the remaining few weeks to make up for the slow start to the quarter," Barclays Capital analyst Anthony DiClemente said in a report Friday. He became the latest Wall Street observer to cut his box office expectations for the final quarter of the year.our editor recommendsBox Office Preview: 'New Year's Eve,' 'The Sitter' Open in Advance of Holiday CrushForeign Box Office: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I' Dips 47 Percent but Still No. 1 Even though 30 percent of the fourth quarter's grosses are typically generated in the final three weeks of the year, he said he is now looking for a "flattish" box office quarter, down from the 7 percent-8 percent gain that he had previously forecast. As a result, he also reduced his fourth-quarter financial estimates for movie theater groups Regal Entertainment Group and Cinemark. "The film slate looks strong in the last two weeks of the year, and we are most excited for Sherlock Holmes 2, Mission Impossible 4 and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," DiClemente said. "However, the slate appears somewhat crowded, which could limit the collective box office potential of these films in the fourth quarter. The silver lining here is that these films could have longer "legs" and there could be greater spillover into the first quarter." Similarly, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter earlier in the week had reduced his outlook for the box office this quarter to about flat. "We think box office will be strong for the remainder of the quarter, driving overall box office to roughly flat year-over-year, but still lower than we had previously estimated, he said in adjusting his earnings estimates for Regal, Cinemark and Carmike Cinemas. He rates Regal shares at neutral with a $14 price target, Cinemark, which he rates neutral with a $24 target, and Carmike at outperform with a $10 target. And Lazard Capital Markets analyst Barton Crockett this week also lowered his quarterly forecast for the overall box office and Regal. "We had assumed 10 percent domestic box office growth for the industry in the fourth quarter," he wrote. "It's now clear our estimate was too high." He moved to a forecast of a 1.6 percent improvement. Late last week, Stifel, Nicolaus analyst Benjamin Mogil had lowered his quarterly expectations for the movie industry. "Our new estimate assumes that December's box office is up 8.6 percent over last year, but not enough to pull the quarter to break-even," he wrote. Yorkey: Screen meets stage in unusual career path

Brian YorkeyBrian Yorkey entered the world of screenwriting an accomplished playwright and lyricist -- he penned the book and lyrics for "Next to Normal," the 2009 Broadway musical about a mother suffering from bipolar disorder, which won three Tony Awards and a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. While the worlds of stage and screen rarely mix, Yorkey sees a blurry area between the two, and he approaches new material for both in the same way."When I was a kid, whenever we'd go anywhere new, I would be less interested in seeing tourist stuff than in looking at the houses and apartments and trying to figure out what it was like to live where these people lived," he says. "So whether I'm writing a song or a screenplay or a musical or stage play, I start by asking myself one question: What is that world like?"His approach produced original storylines that were rich in character, and Hollywood soon took notice. He's been busy ever since.First, his feature pitch "Time After Time" sold in a bidding war to Universal for high six figures, prompting Summit Entertainment to fast-track the project.Next, Yorkey and composer Tom Kitt preemptively sold a script for their feature "Score!" to Warner Bros. The musical, which tells the story of two down-on-their-luck Broadway songwriters who take jobs as counselors at a theater camp, will be co-produced by Anonymous Content and Team Downey. Robert Downey Jr. is also slated to appear as one of the film's leads. And finally, Yorkey and Kitt have been busy writing original songs for Diablo Cody's reimagining of "Sweet Valley High," a feature set up at Universal with Marc Platt ("Wicked") producing.Still, Yorkey hasn't forgotten his theater roots. In addition to working on an untitled Broadway project he's also collaborating with Sting on a piece of musical theater that will be based on the songwriter's 1991 album "The Soul Cages."With so many film projects in the works, how does he feel about now being able to add "accomplished screenwriter" to his resume? "I'll let you know when it happens."TEN SCREENWRITERS TO WATCH 2011:Josh Applebaum & Andrew Nemec | Jay Baruchel & Jesse Chabot | Justin Britt-Gibson | Neil Cross | Andrew Haigh | Kurt Johnstad | Lauryn Kahn | Paula Pell | Jon Spaihts | Brian Yorkey Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

The Take

Tom Sturdy and Take advantage of Evans in "The Take" Shot in Ireland by Company Pictures & Warner Brothers and sisters for Sky1 and Sky1 HD, and compiled by ITV Art galleries Global Entertainment. Executive producers, Lavinia Warner, Charles Pattinson, George Faber, Helen Flint, Suzan Harrison, Andrew Lowe, Elaine Pyke, Martina Cole producer, Willow Grylls director, David Drury author, Neil Biswas good book by Martina Cole.Freddie Jackson - Tom Sturdy Jimmy - Take advantage of Evans Maggie - Charlotte now now Riley Jackie - Kierston Wareing Ozzy - John CoxA small-scale 2009 British crime drama acquired as original programming for Encore, "The Take" offers the simple pleasure of Tom Sturdy at his brutish, glowering best. Released from prison inside the opening moments, his thuggish Freddie Jackson is actually feral and simian regarding recall Paul Muni inside the original "Scarface," creating an unpleasant and lastly adversarial relationship along with his more cerebral cousin, also well carried out by Take advantage of Evans. "The Take" is mob light, possibly, but nevertheless originates in a way that deftly pulls you through all its four hourlong sections. Hardy's Freddie is virtually no deep thinker. Rather, he's susceptible to settling disputes getting a broken bottle and communicating with them later. Cousin Jimmy (Evans) -- who becomes his unlikely partner -- hardly seems being his match. Besides he rely on his wits, but he even features a lovely girlfriend, Maggie (Charlotte now now Riley), who humanizes him -- and doesn't trust Freddie. Yet with mob boss Ozzy (the always-splendid John Cox) in jail, the two still handle his dirty dealings, no matter the growing tension together. And without giving a lot of away, alliances alternation in unpredictable ways on the length covering 10 years. In the mid-eighties, the story, by Neil Biswas (modified from Martina Cole's novel) and directed by David Drury includes enough violence and tragedy to sustain a effective sense of menace -- no less than, prior to the final hour, where the payback does less than equal the buildup. A lot of the drama naturally originates from the mercurial Freddie, a personality Sturdy -- whose resume includes a terrific "Wuthering Levels" remake, before entering director Christopher Nolan's orbit via "Beginning" as well as the approaching Batman follow-up -- turns into a seething, volatile presence. He's the kind of functioning psychopath who is able to trigger inside a moment's notice, and makes what otherwise may well be a rather tired crime drama eminently watchable and suspenseful. Although a couple of from the cultural areas of Britain inside the go-go eighties might not resonate getting a U.S. audience, for Encore, the acquisition nevertheless qualifies just like a no-brainer -- offering pay-TV grit cheaply. On the way, the takeaway from "The Take" again proves a vintage showbiz saw: Cast the very best actor just like a mobster, and being bad might be pretty damn good.Camera, Owen McPolin production designer, Susie Cullen editor, Chris Ridsdale music, Ruth Barrett casting, Emma Style. 4 Several hours. For nearly inexplicable, subtle reasons, the lady clown is most likely more amusing. Adam Brody Calls His MTV Series Good Vibes the "Grungier" O.C. -- With Horny Surfers

Adam Brody Adam Brody says his new animated series Good Vibes is the grungier version of his former hit show, The O.C. "It has the rich side, but the very Venice Beach, graffiti side - and then with horny little surfers," he tells TVGuide.com. Brody's Good Vibes character Woodie is the anti-Seth Cohen in personality - confident and thrill-seeking - but like the brotherly bond between Seth and Ryan on The O.C., Woodie befriends the new teen in town, Mondo (Josh Gad). The two become friends as Woodie shows Mondo the ropes around town while together they try to score girls (or even just a first kiss). "They're really a team on a quest for love and they're moderately successful. They inch towards the goal line [by the end of the season]," Brody says. On Thursday's episode, Mondo tries to catch a break in the romance department when he and Woodie get themselves invited to a sleepover with Wadska, the brother of Mondo's crush Jeena (voiced by Olivia Thirlby). (Watch their plan unfold in the video below.) Unfortunately, Brody says, the beyond-strange Wadska "makes it a pretty dangerous [occasion]." Brody adds that Wadska (voiced by Tony Hale) happens to be his favorite character of the bunch. "I love that he has chest hair already and is so sexually hungry, but ambiguous," Brody says. Aside from Brody calling the project "kismet," he says he couldn't have been more thrilled to learn it would be paired with the revival of Beavis and Butt-head. "That's one of the things my seventh-grade self would just freak-out about," he says, adding: "And I don't take that lightly." Good Vibes airs Thursdays at 10:30/9:30c on MTV.

Trial set as O'Donnell deal collapses

O'Donnell A trial has been scheduled for Pierce O'Donnell after a federal judge refused Monday to sentence him to jail time and prosecutors declined to budge from a plea agreement that would have seen the famed litigator serve six months in prison on charges of making illegal campaign contributions.U.S. District Judge James Otero said Monday that O'Donnell, perhaps most famous for representing Art Buchwald in the suit that exposed studio accounting practices, showed an exceptional record of contributions to the community that made jail time unwarranted. He also cited health concerns, including input from experts who said that O'Donnell suffers from bipolar disorder. But federal prosecutor Dennis Mitchell refused to agree to a sentence without the jail time, arguing that it was sending "a message to the community" about the gravity of O'Donnell's offense. O'Donnell pled guilty last summer to two misdemeanor counts of illegal contributions to John Edwards' 2004 presidential campaign, in which he got 10 employees of his law firm and others to each contribute $2,000 to the campaign, for which he would then reimburse them. The plea agreement called for six months in prison, one year of supervised release and a $20,000 fine.Otero instead wanted to sentence O'Donnell to three years' probation, including six months detention with an electronic monitoring device. Mitchell refused, leading to a contentious hearing in the Los Angeles courtroom in which Otero said that the government was "interfering with the sentencing power of the court.""What you are causing taxpayers here is a significant amount of money," Otero told Mitchell, going so far as to predict that the "outcome will be the same" during a trial."This is a person who has impeccable character who has made a mistake in his life caused by a psychiatric condition," Otero said. Nevertheless, he scheduled a trial to begin on Jan. 31.Exacerbating O'Donnell's case was that he already pled guilty in 2006 to misdemeanor state charges of making "conduit" contributions to the 2001 mayoral campaign of James Hahn.O'Donnell was clearly pleased with Monday's outcome, even if it extends even further a case that has cost him huge sums. His attorney, Brian 0'Neill, called the developments "unprecedented" and said of prosecutors' refusal to agree to the judge's proposed sentence, "I actually think it is personal at this point between the prosecutor and maybe me." Is Mike Mendes Axing the experience in 'Bond 23'?

For a long time, reporters happen to be asking Roland Emmerich -- director of 'Independence Day' and '2012' -- why he's this type of passion for coming in the planet (I even gave it a go once, too), that is usually met having a downplayed answer about this all as being a coincidence. Or something like that like this. Then -- while talking about his new movie about Shakespeare -- Emmerich offered this, almost in passing: "I usually possess the feeling our whole culture is sort of a large amount of lemmings... and soon it all will be over." Honestly, has there have you been a sentence to higher describe Roland Emmerich's motivations than that? Oh, yes, plus there is his new "Shakespeare would be a fraud" movie opening in certain marketplaces a few days ago, 'Anonymous.' Within the drama, William Shakespeare (performed quite terrifically by Rafe Spall) is really a buffoon, selected to pose because the author of a few of the finest plays ever which were really compiled by Edward p Vere (Rhys Ifans), 17th Earl of Oxford -- a theory Emmerich states is "plausible." Moviefone spoke to Emmerich about 'Anonymous,' the difficulties of creating a mostly CGI world look realistic, and why 'Anonymous' looks much better than the 'Star Wars' prequels. Before I spoke for you it had been for '2012' -- it is a completely different movie this time around around. Really? OK, I am game: How can you think they're similar? I believe they're type of twins. [Laughs] No, really. I am likely to quote yourself on that now. Honestly, though: So how exactly does Roland Emmerich get this to movie? Remember, my next movie is normal Roland Emmerich ['Singularity'] -- and the other one next. I believe, for me personally, it is good, every now and then, to behave that's essential for me. Simply to reunite. It's much more compact and fewer pressure and that i could do things i wanted. And to return to Germany the very first time in two decades and use incredibly gifted people there, because I usually think that German deck hands are, really, inside a strange way, the very best -- particularly when you speak German. So, throughout it had been an individual movie for me personally. Therefore it is diverse from filming, say, '2012.' Whenever you do these large movies, it's a bit like as being a general inside a war or even the executive of the large company. You are less than lower and dirty. Ultimately, what goes on round the camera and also the stars is the same. There is no difference. So have you enjoy causeing this to be movie a lot more than your movies with explosions? I loved the closeness. Even just in my large movie, I really like shooting dialogues probably the most and dealing with stars. I really look around the schedule and that i go, "Oh, God," when there's an action scene around the schedule. However when there's dialogue around the shooting schedule, I am like, I can not wait to get it done. So why do the experience movie then? Because I love it... it isn't like I am miserable or anything. But when this is the part you don't enjoy... I am not miserable... and that i possess a good hands by using it and keeping these tiresome moments before a blue screen and stuff that's lively and fun. Personally i think a director is definitely an animator -- we ought to all have training at Club Mediterranean therefore we can grasp that. Since it is a great deal about motivation and keeping acting fresh in tiresome situations. Things I always find fascinating is when movies influence each other. For instance: after i was shooting '2012,' I shot a great deal before blue screen. And That I recognized, using digital camera models, digital compositing is really a lot better than anything I've ever seen. And So I thought, My dear God, I'm able to really do whole moments before blue screen. And it is relatively easy and simple to composite. Therefore we shot the moments also it looked great and convincing, and so i stated, "Let us make use of this within our Shakespeare movie?" Some tips about what I do not understand: Basically watch 'Revenge from the Sith,' it's pretty apparent that whole movie is CGI. I did not believe way with 'Anonymous.' Can you explain that? Because I believe we labored a bit harder compared to what they do. It is a different type of movie, you do not care. Also, you forget, George Lucas needs to make three . 5 1000 shots and that we have, maybe, inside a movie like 'Anonymous,' between four and 500. This is a large difference. And i believe I've someone who just likes, much like me, realism. It certainly is just how much you want something or can't stand something. And i believe if you feel composited, it's a bad shot -- you will find lots of methods where one can allow it to be look less just like a composite. Almost always there is this talk that certain day effects can help make movies cheaper -- also it never happens like this. However in the situation of 'Anonymous,' it had been the very first movie that visual effects managed to get look bigger but was half as costly. Had you been worried it had not been likely to look real? Yeah, you are always scared of that. And that we cut 5 or 6 shots out simply because they did not meet the relaxation. Shifting gears, did you know of the Shakespeare conspiracy before you decide to did this movie? Not whatsoever. Not before the script. I truly wasn't either, but -- after considering it -- you will find a number of different versions. Well... there's just one serious theory at this time, from the Earl of Oxford. His whole existence is simply too good of the match and that he blows almost every other candidate from the water. Also, he would be a author, he'd an acting group, he committed to theaters. He'd a yearly salary going back 10 years of his existence from Elizabeth, who had been very stingy. So there is lots of evidence there. Which means you think it's correct? Well, for me personally, I'd say it is extremely plausible it was Oxford. But I am 100 % certain it had not been the guy from Stratford. There's an excessive amount of evidence there that proves he wasn't. Would you worry individuals will judge this movie according to your other disaster movies? You will find several things from this movie. To begin with, I am "online resources Disaster" -- that's my official title. Then, naturally, there's the literary establishment. On their behalf they'll absolutely fight this movie and then try to play down it -- that is always happening to movies that are looking individuals to think. So you will see a large fight happening. And that is all fine, however i think we designed a great movie and that we stand for this and no matter what, happens. We can not manage it, you realize? You ought to have launched this movie anonymously. I needed to. However, you couldn't do this. The studio only provided the cash simply because they could market it under my title. See, that will have really shocked people whenever you made your eventual large reveal that's was you. But it is a bit like this, too, because individuals are simply stunned that it's from me. They are always saying, "How difficult could it be to create this movies which i normally do? Do you consider you may be brain broken performing these movies?" It is simply like several public perception. It is the same factor that unexpectedly happens to Michael Bay the ones like this. Everyone thinks we are type of idiots. This is a strong word. I do not think even those who can't stand your movies thinks that you are a fool. Good [laughs]. I must return for this: You probably did say you don't anticipate the experience shots and also you like dialogue. Why don't you simply do more movies such as this? It isn't that. What I wish to avoid later on is disaster films -- less disaster films. And That I just type of need to make... I really like making these movies. Also, guess what happens, it is the movies I really like probably the most. I visit a great, entertaining movie -- a large, entertaining movie -- and it is this type of pleasure that i can view it. Such as the first 'Pirates from the Caribbean' was among individuals. And also the first 'Back towards the Future' was among individuals. The very first 'Star Wars' was among individuals. So that is what I am truing to desire to which explains why I make movies. But, I type of also provide other interests. For instance: I am a huge history aficionado, I enjoy read biographies, I am very into reading through and that i never watch television or anything and I am hardly on the pc. So, in ways, it's another Roland Emmerich. And That I possess the littlest trouble with it I believe everyone else has an issue with it. But individuals who know me see 'Anonymous,' and say, "Yeah, totally vintage Roland." How so? I am a very inquisitive person. I believe inquisitiveness is lost within our culture. I usually possess the feeling our whole culture is sort of a large amount of lemmings... and soon it all will be over. You are able to contact Mike Ryan on Twitter. Analyst: DreamWorks Animation Films 'Simply Not Making money with Anywhere Near Historic Norms'

NY - Shares of DreamWorks Animation opened up slightly lower on Wednesday after BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield cut his cost target around the stock and the 2012 earnings estimations, stating lower anticipation for Puss in Boots, amongst other things. He reduced his cost target from $18 to $15.50 and maintained his "sell" rating around the stock. "DWA's key challenge is the fact that their creative output (movies) just isn't making money with anywhere near historic norms," Greenfield authored inside a report."As the development of worldwide marketplaces (especially Russia and China) and three dimensional ticket rates have assisted DWA box office grosses, the rapid decline in your home entertainment market as customers change from purchasing to leasing is way outweighing this area office benefits." Meanwhile, DWA's films have fallen short within the U.S., "with box office outperformance largely occurring in marketplaces where ancillary revenue streams are much less robust compared to the U.S.," Greenfield stated. He stated his decrease in his 2012 earnings estimate to $1.25 per share from $1.54 was "driven by lower box office presumptions for Puss in Boots (three dimensional and Imax three dimensional rates progressively hard for customers to warrant for animated films) and reduced ancillary revenues for Puss in Boots and Madagascar 3." Cillian Murphy Dodges 'Dark Dark night Rises' Question

Cillian Murphy is not "likely to lead towards the gossips or speculation" about whether he's in 'The Dark Dark night Increases,' he informs BBC Radio, but that is not quite a resounding denial, could it be? He was more wanting to discuss his current film 'In Time' throughout the segment, but -- obviously -- the interviewer attempted his better to get Murphy to slide up about when he last saw director Christopher Nolan. Could Murphy's sly, dimpled smile really mean he's reprising his role as Scarecrow? Watch his restless interview ahead. 'The Dark Dark night Rises' is presently filming and when Murphy is incorporated in the film, he's not yet been captured pics of on-occur either Pittsburgh or La. Dancing's Maks: Chynna's Elimination Was Discouraging

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Hi everyone,Hope you're well! Thanks for voting for us!We have the tango next week and rehearsals are going great so far. It is '80s week and I didn't really want to incorporate anything, but producers insisted. I mean, an '80s tango just sounds weird. But I have a good idea and a good story.I thought Hope did an amazing job with the foxtrot. She was great and we're pleased with the 24. I just want to be clear that we don't' have issues. We don't have problems. We don't have life issue situations we need to overcome. We're just dancing and we're trying to do our best. Given Hope's background, all the physical attributes we're trying to enhance, I'm proud of her. For a badass goalkeeper to dress up as Jessie, she was great. She was really believing in it and living it up. She's improved. Her frame's so much better. The technical aspect of foxtrot was up there. But we're starting a new dance, and as it is with every new routine, we start from scratch. I'm hoping to get to the point where she starts learning tango as a continuation of foxtrot in terms of skill. As for Len's comment that Hope is not committed, I think it's a heavily produced moment. The judges have no idea nor do they particularly care how much we rehearse. For him to say stuff like that, he was told to say it. I don't know what the point is, but it is what it is. I love the show. I think it is an amazing job. It's a great opportunity, a phenomenal platform for promoting what I love, but we're becoming a form of entertainment. I feel like we're losing a little bit of our dignity. I think we need to find a way to balance it out. There has to be room for an incredible story. There has to be room for shock factor, but I also feel like Chynna and Kristin leaving told everybody that unless they have a gazillion of people voting, it's not good enough. Chynna has one hiccup and she leaves. Others hiccup on a regular basis and they're not in jeopardy at all.Tony is upset, it kills me. He was so happy this season. He wanted to go all the way. He had an amazing dancer in Chynna. It feels like, there are some couples that do one tiny thing well, the judges glom to it. They love it. Then there are couples no matter what they do, one thing they miss on that is noticed, they harp on it. J.R.'s dance was probably the best male foxtrot of the night. I thought it was phenomenal. For Carrie Ann to comment the way she did, we were like, "What is she talking about?" I'm 31 years old. I've spent 27 of them ballroom dancing and I've spent the last five years doing the show and all types of dancing. I've done everything. I've done competitions, Broadway, TV, radio, producing, and teaching. I'm saying right now that Carrie Ann does not have more experience. If none of us know what she's talking about, then we have a problem. We had no idea what she was saying. The Pink Panther is a comedy! It was like, "Where is this coming from?"I feel like anything I say right now will sound like "typical Maks." The reality is I'm not angry about anything. I'm having an amazing time from every aspect. Some people say that I'm not having fun, that I'm not myself, or I'm not enthusiastic. You don't really know me, but looking back, I've realized that a spark is not there. It's common for everybody on the show. I feel like each season, I'm coming back hoping for some kind of a Cinderella story, like a fairy tale. I lose hope last. I'm the last one that's left that still believes I can win it. Our show is about dance. Sometimes being a good dancer helps and sometimes that doesn't help. Fans want to see somebody else stay longer because I don't know why. Better story? Better personality? They feel like they represent them. That discourages you. That discourages everyone. When I was with Brandy, I was on fire. I was trying my best every week, every show, every number. I was trying to come up with something new and exciting, and we didn't make the final. It made me angry at the moment. I thought about it afterward, and it is about the fans. Who said that Bristol doesn't have a right to be in the final? Of course she does. It was a lost cause for most of us, for the ones with a smaller fan base, the ones who are not as good as dancer as Jennifer Grey. Kristin leaving was sad. Chynna leaving was discouraging. It truly is. Right now, I personally have two options as a pro on Dancing: 1) our fans are going to carry us as far as they will, but it won't be enough to carry us all the way because somebody has a bigger fan base. So will I kill myself every week to come up with something spectacular? Why not go for something that's just enough? Fans are going to vote. 2) Look, I'm too proud. I'm still a pro and no matter the outcome, I want the product to be the best it can be even though I understand it might be a lost cause. The other factor is that I'm Maksim Chmerkovskiy. I'm the son of my parents. I'm brother of Valetin. I'm a friend to many people. Those people know that I will never let Hope down. I like her. We're friends. We have a great friendship. I don't want to let her down. It would not be fair to Hope if I were to do just enough. One last thing: Make sure to follow me on Twitter at @MaksimC. I'm going to tweetthe names of the stores across the country that will be carrying my jewelry line starting this month. You can, of course, find them on Amazon and Endless too. That's all for now,Maks

DreamWorks' Stacey Snider Addresses Studio's Money Issues (Exclusive)

Was not ever a film more appropriately named compared to Help. Coming off a string of disappointments, the unlikely blockbuster's box-office performance came in an opportune time for DreamWorks, that has happened using its first releases I'm # 4, Fright Evening and many particularly, the pricey Cowboys & Aliens.our editor recommends'The Help' Crosses $100 Million Mark'Cowboys & Aliens' Director Jon Favreau: I Came Across 'Magic' of Movies as Theater Usher'Fright Evening:' Colin Farrell on Playing 'Sensual, Erotic' Vampire'The Help' Stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis to go to Zurich Film Fest'The Help' to get Ensemble Award at 15th Annual Hollywood Film Honours (Exclusive) Still, the is watching the reconstituted Steven Spielberg studio carefully as speculation has intensified in recent days concerning the company's financial status and also the amount of support it might -- or may not -- be receiving from the primary backer, India's Reliance. Particularly, Hollywood will talk about the performance from the next pricey DreamWorks wager, Shawn Levy's $110 million-allocated Real Steel. PHOTOS: How 'The Help' Was Cast Within an interview using the Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Boss Stacey Snider acknowledged that Cowboys would be a large setback both personally and financially for the organization. But she stated any chatter that DreamWorks is within an economic squeeze is inaccurate. She stated Reliance hasn't wavered in the support and particularly declines gossips that DreamWorks staff continues to be purchased to chop off expenses. "We haven't transformed our expenses, we haven't laid anybody off. We now have no intends to lay anybody off in order to reduce expenses," she stated. We now have absolute support from your partners. That's real, it's expressed, it's explicit." An area where Hollywood may have noted a big change, Snider stated, is the fact that DreamWorks has slowed down its purchases of scripts. Though the organization just optioned Roald Dahl's children's story BFG, DreamWorks works with material that's already within the cupboard. "I've certainly stated to the professionals, 'Let's turn these into movies, not conferences,' " she stated. "I simply think that's prudent management." The Double Steps (Los pasos dobles)

A Tusitala P.C., Bord Cadre Films, Television Espanola production. (Worldwide sales: M-Appeal, Berlin.) Created by Luisa Matienzo, Serta Wechsler. Directed by Isaki Lacuesta. Script, Isa Campo, Lacuesta. With: Bokar Dembele, Miquel Barcelo, Alou Cisse, Hamadoun Kassogue, Amon Pegnere Dolo, Amassagou Dolo, Abinum Dolo, Soumaila Sabata, Djenebou Keita, Mahamadou Camara. Narrator: Hamadoun Kassogue. (Bambara, Dogon, French dialogue)Idiosyncratic helmer Isaki Lacuesta combines docu, re-creation and fiction within the aesthetically impressive but narratively challenged "The Double Steps." Weaving aspects of the existence of French-artist-in-Africa Francois Augieras with individuals of his spiritual heir, The spanish language-artist-in-Africa Miquel Barcelo, and tales relayed through the Dogon people of Mali, the pic uses the quest for a concealed fresco cycle like a jumping-off indicate have fun with concepts of storytelling, fantasy and Barcelo's relationship to his selected home. Elliptical, meandering and ultimately unconvincing, "Double Steps" received San Sebastian's top prize but will not get out of the fest ghetto. It appears that painter and author Augieras participated in a little of mythmaking before his dying in 1971. He allow it to be known he colored a cycle of frescoes inside a bunker somewhere in Mali, that they then covered over and done with desert sands, departing scattered clues to become discovered eventually. Lacuesta presents two journeys in "The Double Steps," one including an embodiment of Augieras with a local (Bokar Dembele), and also the other with artist Barcelo, whose recent jobs are inspired through the late French painter's existence and oeuvre. The helmer moves backwards and forwards between both of these mobile phone industry's, stimulated simply through the empty spaces left by hungry termites who've eaten away works of art left in Mali's challenging atmosphere. The concept is simpler to describe in publications rather than realize onscreen, and also the words provided by narrator Hamadoun Kassogue don't make things much clearer. Early moments are similar to Claire Denis' "Love Travail": Augieras is really a soldier inside a fort commanded by his uncle (Kassogue), with whom he appears with an incestuous relationship. This Augieras is definitely an invention inspired through the Frenchman as opposed to a literal version. When he fails some trust exercises with fellow soldiers, he's banned and begins his wanderings, including falling along with some bandits and encounters having a village of albinos. Within the here-and-now, Barcelo offers and socializes with local people to whom fantastical tales are a part of everyday existence. They use search of Augieras' lost bunker, which results in an uplifting scene inside a cave whose walls are partially engrossed in sketches. Thinking they are clues Augieras left, and reluctant to allow them be read by others, Barcelo and the buddies rub the markings away. Only audiences who watch Lacuesta's 61-minute docu "The Clay Journals," also presented at San Sebastian, knows that Barcelo themself made these sketches "Clay," which mostly records a performance work of art in Mali, will certainly be an additional around the DVD. Spaghetti Westerns are among Lacuesta's inspirations, partially because of Augieras' own affinities, and certain moments, along with the music, are patterned following the legendary oaters. The semi-destroyed dirt structures from the Dogon bear a resemblance to Native American pueblos, and also the outlaws with bandoliers further the comparison. Celebrate for lots of ambiance but impenetrable narration, although the helmer is interested in conjuring mood, with legendary (some may say stereotyped) images of the guy inside a baobab tree, or several albinos emerging from tents during the night. Lacuesta's usual ace d.p. Diego Dussuel remarkably captures the striking Mali landscapes, and the atmospheric nocturnal moments, using their whimsical evocations of the almost otherworldly spirituality, will also be things of question. The transfer from Red-colored to 35mm maintains all of the preferred richness of tone.Camera (color, HD-to-35mm), Diego Dussuel editor, Domi Parra music, Gerard Gil production designer, Sebastian Birchler costume designer, Christophe Mercier seem (Dolby), Amanda Villavieja, Juerg von Allmen connect producer, Jamal Zeimal Zade assistant director, Luis Bertolo casting, Cendrine Lapuyade. Examined at San Sebastian Film Festival (competing), Sept. 19, 2011. (Also in Busan Film Festival -- World Cinema Chicago Film Festival -- World Cinema, Black Perspectives.) Running time: 91 MIN.
