Co-Author of Tom Sizemore Memoir Says 'He's No Saint' But 'Incredibly Misunderstood'
Disney"The Help" On Wednesday morning, the Screen Actors Guild will announce its nominations for the 18th annual SAG Awards. This is exciting news because, over the years, SAG Award nominations -- which are determined by a nominating committee composed of a randomly selected 3% of the union's overall membership (2100 for film categories and 2100 for television categories) -- have become the single best predictor of which performances will go on to receive acting nods from the Academy.our editor recommendsDick Van Dyke Reuniting With TV Wife Mary Tyler Moore at SAG AwardsSAG Awards: Zooey Deschanel, Emmy Rossum Share Acting Secrets SAG Awards: 7 Films That Could Take Ensemble Honors Last year, the two organizations overlapped on 17 out of 20 acting nominees (SAG picked Get Low's Robert Duvall over Biutiful's Javier Bardem, Conviction's Hilary Swank over Blue Valentine's Michelle Williamsand Black Swan's Mila Kunis over Animal Kingdom's Jacki Weaver), and the year before that they overlapped on an even more impressive 19 out of 20 (SAG picked Inglourious Basterds' Diane Kruger over Crazy Heart's Maggie Gyllenhaal). This makes sense, since they are essentially a microcosm of the Academy's acting branch -- another group of actors, numbering roughly 1,200 -- that selects the acting Oscar nominees. PHOTOS: The Making of 'The Descendants' The one area in which SAG's selections are only of questionable value, in terms of predicting Oscar nominations, is its best ensemble category. The category ostensibly exists to celebrate the most "outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture" -- in other words, films that feature large casts that work well together -- and many nom-com members approach it with that intent. But because nom-com voters don't have a specific category in which they can celebrate their choices for best picture, many choose to employ the ensemble category as their place to do that. Consequently, it's never totally clear what to make of SAG's choices in that category. In 2005 they nominated Crash (which actually won the SAG ensemble award, it's only major victory en route to a stunning upset win at the Oscars), which seemed to indicate that they might be a reliable predictor of the best picture Oscar; just two years later, though, four of SAG's five ensemble nominees -- American Gangster, Hairspray, Into the Wild, and 3:10 to Yuma -- weren't nominated for the best picture Oscar (or, in the case of Hairspray, any Oscars) at all. PHOTOS: The Making of 'The Artist' And so, without further ado, here are my best guesses of what SAG will choose to nominate Wednesday morning, based on my observations of and conversations with nom-com members at various screenings and Q&As over the past few months, as well as information that I have gathered from trusted sources. Madagascar 3 gets a trailer
The first trailer for Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted has landed online.Despite it being a threequel that no one was too desperate for, there's actually a fair few chuckles in this promo. The zoo escapees ended up in Africa at the end of a largely forgettable Part II, but, as the subtitle indicates, the gang hit Europe this time round. There's a couple of strong sight gags, and the penguins are as reliable as ever when it comes to scoring laughs.Having the characters chased across Europe looks like it'll give the franchise a boost of freshness when they could have just microwaved earlier ideas.Intriguingly, the script for this one comes courtesy of Noah Baumbach (writer/director of The Squid And The Whale and Greenberg).Check out the trailer below:Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted opens on 19 October 2012.

Nickelodeon Ratings Slide: Analyst Cuts Quarterly Ad Revenue Forecast for Viacom in Half
NY - The box office is down 6.0 percent so far in the fourth quarter, and "it will be difficult for the remaining few weeks to make up for the slow start to the quarter," Barclays Capital analyst Anthony DiClemente said in a report Friday. He became the latest Wall Street observer to cut his box office expectations for the final quarter of the year.our editor recommendsBox Office Preview: 'New Year's Eve,' 'The Sitter' Open in Advance of Holiday CrushForeign Box Office: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I' Dips 47 Percent but Still No. 1 Even though 30 percent of the fourth quarter's grosses are typically generated in the final three weeks of the year, he said he is now looking for a "flattish" box office quarter, down from the 7 percent-8 percent gain that he had previously forecast. As a result, he also reduced his fourth-quarter financial estimates for movie theater groups Regal Entertainment Group and Cinemark. "The film slate looks strong in the last two weeks of the year, and we are most excited for Sherlock Holmes 2, Mission Impossible 4 and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," DiClemente said. "However, the slate appears somewhat crowded, which could limit the collective box office potential of these films in the fourth quarter. The silver lining here is that these films could have longer "legs" and there could be greater spillover into the first quarter." Similarly, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter earlier in the week had reduced his outlook for the box office this quarter to about flat. "We think box office will be strong for the remainder of the quarter, driving overall box office to roughly flat year-over-year, but still lower than we had previously estimated, he said in adjusting his earnings estimates for Regal, Cinemark and Carmike Cinemas. He rates Regal shares at neutral with a $14 price target, Cinemark, which he rates neutral with a $24 target, and Carmike at outperform with a $10 target. And Lazard Capital Markets analyst Barton Crockett this week also lowered his quarterly forecast for the overall box office and Regal. "We had assumed 10 percent domestic box office growth for the industry in the fourth quarter," he wrote. "It's now clear our estimate was too high." He moved to a forecast of a 1.6 percent improvement. Late last week, Stifel, Nicolaus analyst Benjamin Mogil had lowered his quarterly expectations for the movie industry. "Our new estimate assumes that December's box office is up 8.6 percent over last year, but not enough to pull the quarter to break-even," he wrote. Yorkey: Screen meets stage in unusual career path
Brian YorkeyBrian Yorkey entered the world of screenwriting an accomplished playwright and lyricist -- he penned the book and lyrics for "Next to Normal," the 2009 Broadway musical about a mother suffering from bipolar disorder, which won three Tony Awards and a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. While the worlds of stage and screen rarely mix, Yorkey sees a blurry area between the two, and he approaches new material for both in the same way."When I was a kid, whenever we'd go anywhere new, I would be less interested in seeing tourist stuff than in looking at the houses and apartments and trying to figure out what it was like to live where these people lived," he says. "So whether I'm writing a song or a screenplay or a musical or stage play, I start by asking myself one question: What is that world like?"His approach produced original storylines that were rich in character, and Hollywood soon took notice. He's been busy ever since.First, his feature pitch "Time After Time" sold in a bidding war to Universal for high six figures, prompting Summit Entertainment to fast-track the project.Next, Yorkey and composer Tom Kitt preemptively sold a script for their feature "Score!" to Warner Bros. The musical, which tells the story of two down-on-their-luck Broadway songwriters who take jobs as counselors at a theater camp, will be co-produced by Anonymous Content and Team Downey. Robert Downey Jr. is also slated to appear as one of the film's leads. And finally, Yorkey and Kitt have been busy writing original songs for Diablo Cody's reimagining of "Sweet Valley High," a feature set up at Universal with Marc Platt ("Wicked") producing.Still, Yorkey hasn't forgotten his theater roots. In addition to working on an untitled Broadway project he's also collaborating with Sting on a piece of musical theater that will be based on the songwriter's 1991 album "The Soul Cages."With so many film projects in the works, how does he feel about now being able to add "accomplished screenwriter" to his resume? "I'll let you know when it happens."TEN SCREENWRITERS TO WATCH 2011:Josh Applebaum & Andrew Nemec | Jay Baruchel & Jesse Chabot | Justin Britt-Gibson | Neil Cross | Andrew Haigh | Kurt Johnstad | Lauryn Kahn | Paula Pell | Jon Spaihts | Brian Yorkey Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com
