DreamWorks' Stacey Snider Addresses Studio's Money Issues (Exclusive)
Was not ever a film more appropriately named compared to Help. Coming off a string of disappointments, the unlikely blockbuster's box-office performance came in an opportune time for DreamWorks, that has happened using its first releases I'm # 4, Fright Evening and many particularly, the pricey Cowboys & Aliens.our editor recommends'The Help' Crosses $100 Million Mark'Cowboys & Aliens' Director Jon Favreau: I Came Across 'Magic' of Movies as Theater Usher'Fright Evening:' Colin Farrell on Playing 'Sensual, Erotic' Vampire'The Help' Stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis to go to Zurich Film Fest'The Help' to get Ensemble Award at 15th Annual Hollywood Film Honours (Exclusive) Still, the is watching the reconstituted Steven Spielberg studio carefully as speculation has intensified in recent days concerning the company's financial status and also the amount of support it might -- or may not -- be receiving from the primary backer, India's Reliance. Particularly, Hollywood will talk about the performance from the next pricey DreamWorks wager, Shawn Levy's $110 million-allocated Real Steel. PHOTOS: How 'The Help' Was Cast Within an interview using the Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Boss Stacey Snider acknowledged that Cowboys would be a large setback both personally and financially for the organization. But she stated any chatter that DreamWorks is within an economic squeeze is inaccurate. She stated Reliance hasn't wavered in the support and particularly declines gossips that DreamWorks staff continues to be purchased to chop off expenses. "We haven't transformed our expenses, we haven't laid anybody off. We now have no intends to lay anybody off in order to reduce expenses," she stated. Snider also expressed confidence in tangible Steel, a boxing drama starring Hugh Jackman and gigantic robots, which opens locally March. 7. PHOTOS:The Evolution of Film Vampires of the underworld "There's an economic loss, popular that people required with Cowboys that we could absorb, not perfectly, but we could absorb it," Snider stated. "The Assistance went a lengthy way towards helping us. And due to that, our partners know, 'Keep going. We are behind you. You have the cash -- make movies.' . . . We now have absolute support from your partners. That's real, it's expressed, it's explicit." An area where Hollywood may have noted a big change, Snider stated, is the fact that DreamWorks has slowed down its purchases of scripts. Though the organization just optioned Roald Dahl's children's story BFG, DreamWorks works with material that's already within the cupboard. "I've certainly stated to the professionals, 'Let's turn these into movies, not conferences,' " she stated. "I simply think that's prudent management." PHOTOS: The Assistance's Retro, Southern Style DreamWorks covered 1 / 2 of Cowboys' $160 million budget, with Universal and Relativity splitting another half. (Vital distributed the film for a small fee.) The Jon Favreau-directed sci-fi Western, launched locally in This summer by Universal, made only $98 million. The Vital worldwide release added only $64 million. Snider appreciates that Real Steel is "an essential movie to us in a few various ways. We like it and extremely, really have confidence in it and it is a substantial wager for all of us.Inch Two days out, understanding of the film isn't high and monitoring isn't strong among women. Snider states she's pleased with the monitoring which the program was to begin marketing to males and broaden to some general audience. Consider the film isn't connected having a well-known toy or game, she states marketing is going to be key. PHOTOS: 10 Greatest Flops of 2011 (To Date) To date The Assistance, which cost $26 million, has made $155 million and counting. The film is at profit in the $60 million point, based on Snider, even though there are just opened up inside a couple of foreign marketplaces, it's on a powerful start -- as opposed to the anticipation at DreamWorks that it wouldn't perform overseas whatsoever. Co-financier Participant Media ponied up another from the budget. DreamWorks faced challenges from the gate, hunting for financing because the recession hit in 2008. The organization setup $325 million in bank financing, which fell considerably lacking its original goal. Additionally, it received financing from Disney, which distributes its films, and Reliance matched up the financial institution financial loans with $325 million in funding. After Real Steel, the following DreamWorks film is going to be Spielberg's War Equine at Christmas. The Double Steps (Los pasos dobles)
A Tusitala P.C., Bord Cadre Films, Television Espanola production. (Worldwide sales: M-Appeal, Berlin.) Created by Luisa Matienzo, Serta Wechsler. Directed by Isaki Lacuesta. Script, Isa Campo, Lacuesta. With: Bokar Dembele, Miquel Barcelo, Alou Cisse, Hamadoun Kassogue, Amon Pegnere Dolo, Amassagou Dolo, Abinum Dolo, Soumaila Sabata, Djenebou Keita, Mahamadou Camara. Narrator: Hamadoun Kassogue. (Bambara, Dogon, French dialogue)Idiosyncratic helmer Isaki Lacuesta combines docu, re-creation and fiction within the aesthetically impressive but narratively challenged "The Double Steps." Weaving aspects of the existence of French-artist-in-Africa Francois Augieras with individuals of his spiritual heir, The spanish language-artist-in-Africa Miquel Barcelo, and tales relayed through the Dogon people of Mali, the pic uses the quest for a concealed fresco cycle like a jumping-off indicate have fun with concepts of storytelling, fantasy and Barcelo's relationship to his selected home. Elliptical, meandering and ultimately unconvincing, "Double Steps" received San Sebastian's top prize but will not get out of the fest ghetto. It appears that painter and author Augieras participated in a little of mythmaking before his dying in 1971. He allow it to be known he colored a cycle of frescoes inside a bunker somewhere in Mali, that they then covered over and done with desert sands, departing scattered clues to become discovered eventually. Lacuesta presents two journeys in "The Double Steps," one including an embodiment of Augieras with a local (Bokar Dembele), and also the other with artist Barcelo, whose recent jobs are inspired through the late French painter's existence and oeuvre. The helmer moves backwards and forwards between both of these mobile phone industry's, stimulated simply through the empty spaces left by hungry termites who've eaten away works of art left in Mali's challenging atmosphere. The concept is simpler to describe in publications rather than realize onscreen, and also the words provided by narrator Hamadoun Kassogue don't make things much clearer. Early moments are similar to Claire Denis' "Love Travail": Augieras is really a soldier inside a fort commanded by his uncle (Kassogue), with whom he appears with an incestuous relationship. This Augieras is definitely an invention inspired through the Frenchman as opposed to a literal version. When he fails some trust exercises with fellow soldiers, he's banned and begins his wanderings, including falling along with some bandits and encounters having a village of albinos. Within the here-and-now, Barcelo offers and socializes with local people to whom fantastical tales are a part of everyday existence. They use search of Augieras' lost bunker, which results in an uplifting scene inside a cave whose walls are partially engrossed in sketches. Thinking they are clues Augieras left, and reluctant to allow them be read by others, Barcelo and the buddies rub the markings away. Only audiences who watch Lacuesta's 61-minute docu "The Clay Journals," also presented at San Sebastian, knows that Barcelo themself made these sketches "Clay," which mostly records a performance work of art in Mali, will certainly be an additional around the DVD. Spaghetti Westerns are among Lacuesta's inspirations, partially because of Augieras' own affinities, and certain moments, along with the music, are patterned following the legendary oaters. The semi-destroyed dirt structures from the Dogon bear a resemblance to Native American pueblos, and also the outlaws with bandoliers further the comparison. Celebrate for lots of ambiance but impenetrable narration, although the helmer is interested in conjuring mood, with legendary (some may say stereotyped) images of the guy inside a baobab tree, or several albinos emerging from tents during the night. Lacuesta's usual ace d.p. Diego Dussuel remarkably captures the striking Mali landscapes, and the atmospheric nocturnal moments, using their whimsical evocations of the almost otherworldly spirituality, will also be things of question. The transfer from Red-colored to 35mm maintains all of the preferred richness of tone.Camera (color, HD-to-35mm), Diego Dussuel editor, Domi Parra music, Gerard Gil production designer, Sebastian Birchler costume designer, Christophe Mercier seem (Dolby), Amanda Villavieja, Juerg von Allmen connect producer, Jamal Zeimal Zade assistant director, Luis Bertolo casting, Cendrine Lapuyade. CBS Gives Take advantage of Schneiders Family Comedy Midseason Series Order
Take advantage of Schneider is formally coming back to primetime. CBS has handed a midseason series order to Schneider’s untitled family comedy. I hear the pickup is perfect for eight episodes. Although it was monitoring well, the pilot didn’t result in the cut for any fall series order in the upfronts, but CBS loved it enough to order a refurbished second pilot that incorporated major casting changes in addition to several backup scripts. The multi-camera comedyThat Schneider co-authored with Lew Morton in line with the stars real-existence encounters, stars Schneider as Take advantage of, a confirmed bachelor that has just married right into a tight-knit Mexican-American family. The spanish language actress Claudia Bassols plays his wife, Maggie. Diana Maria Riva plays his mother-in-law, Rosa. Both roles were recast in the pilot, as was the role of Schneider’s father-in-law, now performed by Cheech Marin. Remaining in the original cast are Schneider, Eugenio Derbez because the wifes uncle and Lupe Ontiveros as her grandmother. Schneider and Morton are executive creating with Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, while Schneider’s brother/creating partner John Schneider works as a non-writing producer. This marks Schneiders first TV series gig in 14 years. He last did a set within the 1996-97 season, NBCs comedy Males Acting Badly. Schneider has since concentrated on features, frequently working together with friend Adam Sandler, most lately co-starring together in Grownups. Using the series pickup, the Take advantage of Schneider comedy joins cop drama The Two-2 as CBS’ backup copies for midseason.
'New Class': Lily Collins Is The Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door!
All week long, we're celebrating "The New Class," Hollywood's latest group of up-and-coming actors and actresses on the cusp of graduating to greatness. Tune in every day this week for exclusive interviews with these pending graduates and your chance to vote for the student body president - the one you think holds the brightest future in the industry. Even nice girls have a mean streak. Take Lily Collins, for instance: the young actress, with credits like the heart-warming "The Blind Side" and the pulse-pounding "Abduction" to her name, is just as likely to bring you baked goods on a bad day as she is to kick bad guy butt when the need arises. That's why we've bestowed Lily with the title of The Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door as part of the New Class, and we think her resume of past and future credits more than speaks to her sweetheart side and her badass streak. Check out her career highlights past the jump! Exploring Lily's "Blind Side," Worshipping Her "Priest" Lily, best known at the time as the daughter of musician Phil Collins, enjoyed her first major feature film breakout role in 2009's "The Blind Side" with an appropriately named character: Collins Tuohy, daughter of tough-minded Tennessee businesswoman Leigh Anne, played to Oscar-winning perfection by Sandra Bullock. Not exactly an "ass-kicking" role, sure, but Collins more than got her licks in with "Priest," the 2011 supernatural action flick about a world overrun with vampires. Getting Abducted With the power of "Priest" not far in the rearview mirror, Lily continued on the action track opposite Taylor Lautner in "Abduction," the "Twilight" star's latest action-thriller that borrows similar elements and themes from the "Bourne" franchise. Though the movie didn't have a stellar debut at the box office this weekend, Lily more than proved her weight opposite acting titans including Alfred Molina and Sigourney Weaver, showing that she has what it takes to swim in the deep end with the big fish. Mirror, Mirror It wasn't going to be long before Lily had a franchise all of her own. The first major property she's set to top-line is "Immortals" director Tarsem Singh's currently untitled Snow White picture, which puts the young actress in the titular fairy tale heroine's extremely stylized shoes. With a cast of fellow actors including Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer, not to mention another rival "Snow White" movie just around the bend, Lily's first major franchise appearance is certainly one to keep an eye on. More "Mortal" But it's Lily's other major franchise that has most YA-savvy fans champing at the bit. She'll star opposite fellow New Class pal Jamie Campbell Bower in "The Mortal Instruments," taking on the coveted role of average girl turned demon-hunting Shadowhunter Clarissa Fray. The movie hasn't even begun shooting yet, but Lily has been attached to the project for almost two years now, and she regularly keeps her fans posted with status updates on Twitter: @lilyasclaryfray. The Questionable Case of the Two Positive 'Abduction' Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes
Taylor Lautner may be very proud of his work in 'Abduction,' but critics don't necessarily feel the same way. The John Singleton-directed action thriller is currently rocking a 6 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is even worse than critical punching bags 'The Smurfs,' 'Zookeeper' and 'Shark Night 3D.' Of the 32 reviewers linked on Rotten Tomatoes, only two gave 'Abduction' a positive notice. Or did they? The pair of Fresh reviews for 'Abduction' are credited to Andrew L. Urban and Louise Keller, writers for the same Australian web site: Urban Cinefile. Kinda weird, right? Even weirder is the blurb credited to Keller, posted right next to a big, red Fresh tomato: The plot is so preposterous that the details hardly matter except to say that there are extravagant stunts, splashy action sequences and a taylor-made romance (sorry, couldn't resist) between Lautner and Lily Collins. Two thumbs up? It gets worse in Keller's actual review, which closes with the following zinger: All in all, Abduction is corny teen-fare for the undiscerning. To be fair, Urban is much more excited about the film, though his review is of the capsule variety. The notion of discovering a secret about yourself on the internet is a great premise on which to build a thriller, especially one whose central character is a teen. Twilight-launched Taylor Lautner gets his first genuine, gold plated leading role as Nathan, the teen who discovers that he was adopted by the people he thought were his parents. Urban Cinefile states that Urban's review will post in full on Sept. 25. Meaning, as of this moment, 'Abduction' doesn't technically have any positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. (French dialogue)A prominent film website describes the premise of "Carre blanc" thus: "Later on, society's weak are wiped out and employed for meat." This really is each one helluva false assumption, or it's symptomatic of author-director Jean-Baptiste Leonetti's excessively cryptic debut feature, for the reason that this type of major conceptual point is barely even recommended onscreen. Bleak, minimalist dystopian sci-fi a la "1984" and "THX-1138," pic epitomizes the carefully thought-out aesthetic package with almost zero curiosity about narrative and audience engagement. Castle Season 4: What Happens After "I Love You"?
Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic As the saying goes, you can't unring a bell. So, can you unspeak the words "I love you"?Fall Preview: Get scoop on your favorite returning showsThat's the question looming over Castle, as the Season 4 premiere (Monday, 10/c, ABC) focuses heavily on how Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) will react to a profession of love from her mystery-writer/partner, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), in last season's finale. Of course, Castle's "I love you" didn't come over a candlelight dinner, but in the aftermath of Beckett being gunned down by a sniper. So, there are plenty of easy outs, right?"My goals were to honor everything that we had done in the season finale and not sweep anything under the carpet," creator and executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe tells TVGuide.com. "My intent was to confront all the issues that we brought up and deal with them in a way that ... was going to be both satisfying to fans and also a little bit frustrating for the ones who want Castle and Beckett to get back right away. We've taken their relationship to the next level of complexity. ... [There's] a lot more meaning in the Beckett and Castle relationship."Which Castle characters made our list of TV's sexiest crime fighters?Adds executive producer Laurie Zaks: "Once the genie is let out of the bottle, it can't be put back in. Even if it's not acknowledged verbally, psychologically there's going to be a difference."It's in those psychological and emotional corners of the story that things get a bit tricky. For example: Will Castle even be able to see past his own complicity in Beckett's shooting - and by extension, the sacrificial death of former Capt. Roy Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson) - to move forward in a relationship with her?"It was a very sobering event for Castle. Certainly he carries a measure of guilt," Fillion says. "Here's a guy who's not very keen to grow up anytime soon. But he's really been spear-heading this investigation. He's been kicking this hornet's nest around, thinking that solving it will get him closer to Beckett. But now he's losing friends, literally. It's going to force him to grow up a little."Castle exclusive: Meet Castle and Beckett's new captain! Also standing in the way of Castle and Beckett's possible love connection is a decrease in face time, now that new Victoria "Iron" Gates (Penny Johnson Jerald) has assumed command of the 12th Precinct and promptly kicked Castle out."He's not used to women being around him that aren't disarmed by him immediately," Fillion says. "Women love him, and when they don't, he takes it really hard. ... She won't give him half a chance. Even when he deserves credit, she will not give it to him. That really bothers him, and it's going to be a continuing battle."But the true obstacle preventing a Castle-Beckett hookup is secrecy, as both Beckett and Castle will be forced to hide significant information from each other at the beginning of the season.Castle exclusive: Star Trek's Michael Dorn is Beckett's shrink"Everybody's got secrets this year," Katic says. "The first episode kind of explains how this next season will be directed. It explains in a really subtle way how the two characters feel about each other and what obstacles they might have to tackle in order to finally get to each other. I think it's really sweet."Sweet, if not immediately satisfying to the show's ravenous fans. Katic can only promise that Beckett, who will also share some her feelings with a police-mandated shrink (Star Trek: The Next Generation's Michael Dorn) this season, is acting in the interest of her long-term happiness."She's making an adult decision not to dive into something because she doesn't want to screw it up," Katic says. " She has real, adult reasons for making the choices she makes. ... She cares for him so much. She's in love with him. She's dated other guys, but he's the only guy she's been in love with."Castle premieres Monday at 10/9c on ABC. Watch a clip from the premiere:Watch Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon Full Movie

Brad Pitt Didn't Mean What He Said About Jennifer Aniston That Way
No good deed goes unpunished on the junket circuit, and thus Brad Pitt’s flicker of candor to Parade Magazine has landed the actor in a bit of a jam. Except, wait: You took it the wrong way. Or did you? I am so confused. “I spent the ’90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony,” Pitt told Parade. “I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.” Hoo boy. That prompted pundits to drag out Aniston’s 2005 quote Pitt’s missing “sensitivity chip” — itself tied to the context of the notorious Pitt/Jolie family-photo spread in W, published not too long after the couple’s dissolution. It also prompted THR to reach out to Pitt’s people, whose 300-horsepower damage-control machine you could already hear whirring into high gear from parts far and wide. “”It grieves me that this was interpreted this way,” he said in a statement. “Jen is an incredibly giving, loving and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself — and that, I am responsible for.” Whew! Now that that’s cleared up… Anyway, keep a steady supply of popcorn by the couch; this is totally going to go on for the rest of our lives. · Brad Pitt Is Finally ‘Satisfied’ [Parade] · Brad Pitt Backtracks on Moneyball Press Gaffe About Jennifer Aniston[THR] Watch X-Men: First Class Megavideo

From Shakira to Selena Gomez, from Gloria Estefan to Jessica Alba, the special anniversary issue took nine months of planning, seven photo shoots, more than 100 red designer dresses and upwards of $10 million in jewelry to create the triple gatefold cover, which hits newsstands on September 13. We were looking for women who, of course, were not only global superstars but who were really groundbreaking who had kind of broken out of the box that they had initially been put into, Latina magazine editorial director Galina Espinoza told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Wednesdays Access Hollywood Live. Someone like Selena Gomez, she started out a teen queen. But todays shes a triple threat in movies and music, shes got her own fashion line. Shes growing up before our eyes, Galina continued. Youve got someone like Salma Hayek, who started out she was a telenovela star. She is Oscar nominated, but now shes a really important producer in Hollywood, and she just launched her own beauty line. To celebrate the new issue, Access Hollywood has teamed up with Latina for an hour-long special, Access Hollywood & Latina Magazine present 15 Latinas We Love, which will bring the groundbreaking cover to life.
